About Ryan
Ryan’s photographs are different because each one tells The Story.
Ryan’s photographs will tell your story. Not only are his images beautiful, they are honest. Ryan’s true photojournalistic style captures the important and defining moments, always adhering to the rule of never interfering, but waiting patiently and making himself invisible as he experiences and absorbs the events he records.
Ryan’s newspaper background taught him to focus and think ahead. He can anticipate your moments, consider light, composition and art, and capture it all in the best possible way. Other photographers will trail you around, Ryan will be there before you are, not that you’ll necessarily see him.
Never a rock star, he is on time, attentive and experienced, focusing only on you and your event.
Rather than trying to sell you thousands of mediocre pictures in a giant album, and calling it photojournalism, Ryan will create for you a personally curated collection of the best moments, captures, and images from your event. In short, he will record and tell your story. Beautifully.

Ryan earned his photography education starting as a teenaged copy boy at the Salt Lake Tribune. Taught by the gurus who were taught by the legends, he was initiated into the world of journalism and photography and learned the art at the feet of the old while fearlessly forging into the world of the new.
Surrounded by decades of experience and a culture of constant learning and evolution he worked in the newspaper film lab and learned the nuances of black & white photography and later color. During this time, Ryan began taking as many photo assignments as he could.
Soon after that a computer appeared in the lab and Ryan had two days to take the paper’s photography into the digital realm. He learned digital photography with the same creative enthusiasm for experimentation and discovery he had for film.
Before long, Ryan’s talents were evident and landed him a position of full-time photographer for the newspaper where he worked for almost two decades. During this time he traveled the country, photographed local and national politics, major sporting events including the 2002 Olympics, and covered countless personal stories from tragedies to celebrations.
Always the photographer, Ryan naturally found himself recording amazing moments at weddings and giving the photos as gifts. Without advertising, and only by word-of-mouth of impressed friends, his phone started ringing. Recording joyful people on their happiest days compared to constant news tragedy led Ryan to quit his newspaper job and he soon had a thriving wedding photography business.
Ryan’s work has earned him awards from the National Press Photographer’s Association, The Society of Professional Journalists and the Utah News Photographers Association. Besides the Salt Lake Tribune, Ryan’s work has been published by the Deseret News, all the Utah newspapers, The New York Times, USA Today, Newsweek, the Associated Press, Reuters, AFP, USA Hockey, Dance Magazine and other countless publications.
Proud member of the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) and Wedding Professionals of Utah (WPU)
